Had a great weekend at a friends family cabin on the North Fork American River outside of Auburn California.
Before we set out, our friend set us the coordinates of the cabin on Sore Finger Point. He showed the cabin as being pretty high up on the point so I imagined they had a few acres and that there were cabins all over the place, that we would have to hike down to the river - Wrong! My friends family owns hundreds of acres, extending from the river on up the point.
After a long twisty drive down the single lane dirt road with several locked gates we ended deep down in a tree lined canyon just a short walk from the river.
We did not even un-pack the truck - just parked, pulled out our towels and jumped into the cool and refreshing water. It was much deeper than I though it would be - probably over 12 feet in places. There was a great place to dive in. And the water was so clear.
After swimming around for a while we decided to grab the tubes, walk up the river about a mile or so and float down. I think the last time I did that, must have been when I was 16, floating down the Green River in Renton Washington.
After several hours of fun in the water we unpacked, had sandwiches and several yummy salads from Raleys and relaxed as the sky turned dark and a few stars peaked out from the passing clouds.
Had a little trouble getting to sleep as the night was warm and humid and occasionally there were forest noises I could not identify :)
Sunday morning we had a filling breakfast, packed up items we would not need then head back down to the river. The air temp. was not any where near as warm as Saturday afternoon and the river water felt much cooler, but we jumped in any way!
It was a fantastic, relaxing weekend. Before this trip, I had not realized just how much I miss swimming. :D
